Position Summary:
The R&D Test Engineer (High Voltage) will work in the high voltage test lab and is responsible for the design and execution of high voltage and power tests performed on products for R&D and new product development activities, which includes executing tests on Switchgear and Cable Accessories products. The Test Engineer determines processes, schedules and procedures, equipment selection, coordination with outside power labs, and is responsible for the creation of the initial Test Report. power, Electrical, Electric, Testing, Test, Electrical Engineering, electrical equipment, Switch gear, dielectrics
Primary/Essential Responsibilities:
Develop and conduct high voltage test programs to meet project requirements.
Routine and design testing of high voltage cable systems and accessories up to 230kv
Conduct AC withstand tests, Power factor and capacitance test, partial discharge testing, Temperature Rise tests
Simulate Surge Arrester Operations tests
Witnessing outside power testing
Provides directions to lab technicians.
Identify equipment requirements to conduct each test and coordinate scheduling to ensure the availability of this equipment.
Monitor test preparation and execution to ensure safety of the personnel and equipment utilized in conducting each test.
Maintain Test Report Database and Standards library.
Maintain up-to-date knowledge of applicable ANSI, IEEE, IEC, UL and other standards.
Assist in the design, construction and installation of equipment as required to improve test operations.
Travel to outside labs is required.
Required Qualifications:
BS in Electrical Engineering with emphasis on electrical power
At least 2 years electrical test engineering experience on electrical power equipment preferred (will consider new grad with experience testing switchgear in a High Voltage Lab)
Experience with MV Switchgear or Diagnostic and high voltage testing experience with dry/oil transformers
Excellent written and verbal English communication skills
Familiarity with ANSI, IEEE, IEC, UL and other standards preferred
Willingness to travel to perform tests in outside labs
Knowledgeable about test equipment
Ability to learn and, at all times, adhere to proper safety protocols is required
Familiar with new product development Stage Gate Process
Able to write technical documents, like test reports, engineering standards and technical papers.
